Doug MacRae is from London, Ontario, Canada, where he began his piping career at the age of eight. He has built a successful competitive career with notable wins that include the Professional Piobaireachd at Maxville, the Canadian Gold Medal, and the Kansas City Silver Medal.

From 2003 to 2008, Doug lived in Houston, Texas, where he taught piping at St. Thomas’ Episcopal School. As director of the school’s pipe band, he led the group to a Juvenile World Championship title in 2006. He continues to support piping education and is a certified adjudicator with the PPBSO.

Doug is best known for his leadership of the grade one 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band.  He joined the band in 1999 and served as Pipe Major from 2010 until retiring from the role in 2023. During his tenure, the band won multiple North American Championship titles and maintained an unbroken presence at the World Championships in Glasgow. 

Doug also performs with The American Rogues, a U.S.-based Celtic band known for their international touring and military support engagements. He is featured on their latest album, 3lbs. of Rage.
