Clear positions.
Open to conversation.

Residents should not have to wait until a Council vote to learn where their representative stands. I believe candidates and councillors have a responsibility to communicate their positions, explain the evidence and reasoning behind them, and remain open to better information and community input.

These priorities reflect what I have heard from residents across Ward 1 and the practical approach I would bring to Council.

Responsible Growth & Infrastructure

MY POSITION
WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL

Growth should strengthen our communities.  Roads, water capacity, drainage, parks and emergency services must keep pace with development, with clear plans for what infrastructure will cost to operate, maintain and eventually replace.  When developers or the municipality make commitments, residents deserve clear timelines and dependable follow-through.

  • Enforce rigorous oversight of all developer commitments and municipal obligations to ensure projects are completed as promised.
  • Establish clear, enforceable timelines and financial safeguards for all new infrastructure developments to protect taxpayers.
  • Prioritize proactive communication that provides residents with factual evidence regarding how growth affects local roads, drainage, and service delivery.

Taxes, Water Rates and Value for Money

MY POSITION
WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL

Every tax increase and major expenditure should earn Council’s approval.  Residents deserve to understand the need, the alternatives and the ongoing costs.  A project’s inclusion in a long-range plan should not make its approval automatic.  Water bills deserve the same scrutiny, including how charges fund operations, reserves, debt and growth.

  • Provide strict oversight of the capital budget to ensure tax dollars are allocated efficiently toward essential services.
  • Advocate for transparent reporting on water reserves and debt to give residents confidence in utility stability.
  • Review seasonal water consumption thresholds to ensure they are equitable and clearly understood by all residents.

Practical Services, Safety and Connections

MY POSITION
WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL

I believe that the strength of our community relies on the completion of essential local infrastructure that residents have already been promised. This includes ensuring that local parks and trails are finished as planned, providing reliable spaces for families and individuals to connect within their neighborhoods.

Furthermore, I am committed to improving pedestrian safety and connectivity for our students and residents. I support the development of a practical connection toward Oxbow Public School and the implementation of safer crossings at the intersections of Heritage Drive and Meadowcreek Drive, ensuring that children and walkers can navigate our community with confidence.

  • Advocate for the timely completion of promised local parks and trail networks to ensure community amenities are delivered as expected.
  • Prioritize the establishment of a safe, practical walking connection to Oxbow Public School.
  • Support the installation of specialized safety enhancements for crossings at Heritage Drive and Meadowcreek Drive.

Care Closer to Home

MY POSITION

I want to explore practical partnerships that could bring more care closer to home.  The Ilderton Medical Centre is a starting point for conversations about space, community needs and potential services.  Drawing on my health-care experience, I would help bring partners together to assess options such as specimen collection, visiting specialists and physiotherapy.  Any proposal would need willing providers, suitable space and a workable funding model.

WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL
  • Conduct a thorough review of existing leases and available space within the Ilderton Medical Centre to maximize the use of the municipal asset.
  • Engage health-system, academic, and service-delivery partners to explore viable options for rotating clinics and allied-health services.
  • Assess demonstrated community needs to identify potential partnerships for seniors’ supports and specialized services that reduce travel for residents.

Rural Infrastructure and Farmland

MY POSITION
WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL

Productive farmland is the foundation of our local economy and must be protected. Birr, Denfield and our rural communities deserve consistent attention to their infrastructure and service needs.  Reliable roads, bridges and drainage support residents, farms and local businesses.  Productive farmland deserves protection, and I oppose acquiring active agricultural land for the proposed southern rail-trail extension.

  • Prioritize the protection of productive agricultural land by opposing the southern rail-trail expansion project.
  • Focus on rural road maintenance and drainage improvements to ensure safe movement for farm machinery and reliable connectivity.
  • Evaluate all rural infrastructure projects through the lens of emergency access and agricultural operation requirements.

Transparent and Accountable Government

MY POSITION
WHAT I WOULD DO ON COUNCIL

Effective governance requires councillors who are thoroughly prepared and ready to ask meaningful questions rather than just accepting status quo reports. I believe in providing clear, evidence-based reasoning for every decision to ensure the community understands the 'why' behind Council’s actions.

Council’s responsibility continues after a report is received or a plan is approved.  Residents deserve representatives who prepare, exercise independent judgement and explain their decisions.  I will respect staff expertise, ask constructive questions and remain accountable for following issues through.  When you raise a concern, you should know what happens next.

  • Proactively ask informed and meaningful questions to ensure thorough oversight of municipal reports.
  • Provide clear explanations for all decisions to remain accountable to Ward 1 residents.
  • Ensure consistent follow-up and communication to close the loop on community concerns and fulfilled commitments.
